Address by Vice President of Vietnam Vo Thi Anh Xuan to participants of the IV Eurasian Women's Forum

Excellency Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation,

Esteemed Heads of Delegation,

Ladies and gentlemen,

At the outset, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Organizers for giving me the honor of addressing the Plenary Session of the 4th Eurasian Women’s Forum. I extend my greetings of solidarity, friendship, and best wishes to all of you.

I highly value the significant role and positive contributions of the Eurasian Women’s Forum. Over its past three meetings, the Forum has indeed emerged as a pivotal international event, a platform for exchanging and discussing opportunities, challenges, and solutions to enhance the role of women in all aspects of social life. In today’s context, the 4th Forum, under the theme of “Women for Strengthening Trust and Global Cooperation,” delivers a strong message about the crucial role of women in contributing not only to their own countries’ development but also to advancing peace and sustainable development across the region and the world.

Distinguished guests,

Ladies and gentlemen,

Viet Nam perseveres with the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, and multilateralization of international relations and actively engages in global integration. Over nearly four decades of reform, Viet Nam has transformed from a war-torn, underdeveloped and backward nation into the 5th largest economy in ASEAN and the 35th globally, establishing itself as an active and responsible member of the international community.

Despite facing some challenges, Viet Nam has made remarkable achievements in advancing gender equality and empowering women. The role and status of Vietnamese women have significantly improved across all areas of social life, particularly in the economic sector. Viet Nam’s gender equality ranking in 2023 rose to 72nd among 146 countries, moving up eleven places from 2022.

Distinguished guests,

Ladies and gentlemen,

Today’s world confronts numerous threats from both traditional and non-traditional security challenges, necessitating closer cooperation among countries, regions, and the international community. In this context, as envoys of peace and goodwill, women should be at the forefront and empowered to foster dialogue, build trust, and enhance cooperation to collectively create a peaceful, happy, and prosperous world.

Through this Forum, Viet Nam reaffirms its commitment to continue supporting the advancement of women, providing opportunities for women to engage with current positive trends, thereby contributing more significantly to the noble goals set by the United Nations.

May the 4th Eurasian Women’s Forum be a resounding success!

Lastly, I extend my warmest wishes for health, happiness, and success to Madam Speaker Valentina Matviyenko and all the delegates.

Thank you very much.
