The World Federation of Russian-Speaking Women was created following a decision of the 3rd Eurasian Women’s Forum. It includes representatives of more than 150 countries. The main goal of the organization is to bring Russian-speaking women throughout the world together to preserve fundamental human values, traditions, and culture, and develop a conscientious attitude towards history.

What opportunities for expanding business and public relations does the Federation use in the current climate? How can the efforts of women be united to advance a positive agenda? How do national culture and language strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation with other countries?

The number of women who work in municipalities is more than three times higher than that of men. Exchanging knowledge and experience in matters concerning municipal governance can take cooperation between countries to a new level. One promising area is the development of cooperation between sister cities, which could become platforms for implementing joint projects and exchanging best practices in municipal governance.

What role do women play in municipal diplomacy and establishing economic and humanitarian ties? What are the most effective practices of international cooperation among female municipality leaders? What innovative approaches and effective mechanisms for the development of municipal territories can be replicated in other countries? How can we popularize the achievements of women leaders in the development of municipalities?

The 2nd Russia–Africa Summit held to much acclaim in St. Petersburg in July 2023 was a qualitatively new step in the development of Russia–Africa relations. A shift has occurred – from formulating goals and objectives to implementing specific projects and developing mechanisms and tools for mutually beneficial cooperation aimed at creating a more just world order, developing the economy in the interests of the people of Africa and Russia, and furthering constructive interaction in science, technology, and humanitarian work.

Such challenges as preserving life on the planet, ensuring a decent way of life, developing people’s abilities, protecting the health of women and children, overcoming poverty, and enhancing women’s self-realization are all common components of women’s humanitarian mission regardless of the country. International cooperation among women in this regard helps to more effectively achieve sustainable development goals, serves to bring cultures closer together, and promotes mutual understanding.

The economy is undergoing major changes amid geopolitical and technological challenges. Women are analyzing what is happening and proactively responding to it. In the current context, women's mission is to participate in the formation of new economic policies. Technocratization of society, changes in the labor market, and excessive consumption are factors that women use to create new opportunities, including the creation of new jobs and new forms of employment that allow women to combine work and family responsibilities.

Over the last 10 years, the contents of a Russian woman's cosmetics bag have undergone structural and qualitative changes. In such a short period of time, domestic brands have not only displaced foreign-made mast-haves from Russian women's cosmetics and retail shelves, but have also entered foreign markets, such as China.

At the session ‘Women for Women: How Russian Brands are Changing the Global Cosmetics Market’ with participants from Russian cosmetics companies, marketplaces and state development institutions, we will talk about the inner workings of cosmetics brand development in the new economic realities.

The International Council of Women in Technology and Industry was created with the support of the Rosatom State Corporation based on recommendations that were given at the third Eurasian Women’s Forum. The council brings together women experts from the technological sectors of 16 countries. Its mission is to develop and strengthen international cooperation among women, including those working in the nuclear industry, help unlock the professional potential of women working in knowledge-intensive industries, and create a comfortable, inclusive environment for employees of energy and high-tech companies in the council’s member countries.

The meeting of the International Council of Women in Technology and Industry will include a discussion of the interim results of work to prepare a strategic document on women’s involvement and development in high-tech industries, as well as to hand over the council’s chairmanship to the next member country and elect a new chairperson and secretary.

In the modern world, women are driving improvements in healthcare and support for public health. They work hard at various levels to develop advanced health-preserving technologies by combining the best developments and innovations, successful organizational models, and promising social projects into a single system that aims to strengthen public health and improve people’s quality of life. Women are implementing their own social initiatives, which are becoming an essential addition to healthcare modernization programmes.

Modern healthcare is focused on innovative development that can create more and more opportunities to combat life-threatening diseases and increase human life expectancy. The Arctic is an essential part of Russia’s resource base and contributes more than 10% of the national GDP in spite of only about 2% of the population living there. The Arctic is home to major infrastructure projects, mineral resources of strategic importance are extracted there, and without the Arctic, the Russian economy would hardly develop. Still, what really makes the Arctic valuable is its people.

A challenging climate and demanding physical labour have traditionally attracted men to the Arctic in search of geographical discoveries and higher wages. But times are changing, almost half of those who live and work in the Russian Arctic today are women, and not all have simply followed their husbands North. Women are contributing just as much to Arctic development as men, founding businesses, holding senior government positions, participating in scientific research, building careers in high-tech industrial giants, and even working on the icebreakers of the Northern Sea Route. Women have always played an outsized role in preserving the unique ecosystem and identity of the Russian North and deciding the future of the Arctic, and their role in the development of this strategically important macro-region must continue to grow.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has designated Arctic development an indisputable national priority. How should the Arctic change so that people will continue to want to live there? How do the women of the North build their careers and show what they are capable of? Do they feel comfortable in this man’s world? Is today’s Arctic really such a masculine space, or is there room for another kind of strength?

The manmade impact on the environment is increasingly becoming a top priority in the work of government bodies, businesses, and public organizations. Environmental pollution, reduced water availability, as well as climate change and its impact affect the lives and well-being of people all over the world. Trust and cooperation are needed to overcome these challenges. This topic continues to be one that brings people together, despite new challenges. Women play an increasingly important role in the management of natural resources and addressing issues concerning nature management, energy, and food security, among others.

The gastronomy session will include an informal expert dialogue on business strategies and women's successful experience in overcoming investment barriers in the Russian market in various spheres - from gastronomy to high-tech.

The social nature of women has historically dictated their role in preserving and handing down national spiritual and moral values and traditions, be it in the context of families, intercultural dialogue, or the foundations of global peace and cooperation. A woman is the bearer of traditions, a keeper, and a conveyer. She passes them on to future generations. This relay race is what forms cultural heritage, people’s identity, and the cultural code that distinguishes them.

How are contemporary women fulfilling their mission as guardians of traditions? What role do traditions play in modern culture? Does today’s society need traditions? How does the mixing of traditions affect the development of cultures? What role do traditions play in forming a solidary society? How important are traditions in maintaining peace and trust? The current climate has made the task of uniting the efforts of international organizations to protect the rights of citizens around the world more urgent than ever. International women’s associations actively oppose discrimination based on language, nationality, culture, religion, or other grounds. In their activities, they use both legal mechanisms and elements of soft power – the development of international humanitarian cooperation, cultural exchange, and support for women’s entrepreneurship.

What tools can women use to protect the rights and interests of citizens? How can international cooperation contribute to this? How can the practice of applying the positive experience of different countries in protecting human rights be expanded? What role do international women’s associations play in popularizing the achievements of national culture and art?

The Women 20 (W20) meeting is one of the main events of the Eurasian Women’s Forum. For decades now the West has been pushing its rules and so-called liberal values on the rest of the world. The result is a totalitarian dictatorship, especially as regards issues of gender. Such a culture of radicalism is enforced with religious fanaticism and does not reflect the views, attitudes, and wishes of the majority of the world’s population, with a rejection of its basic tenets growing even in the West itself.

The role of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) is crucial for the socioeconomic development of many regions, making up between 40 and 60 percent of most countries’ GDPs. MSMEs account for 97% of all enterprises in the APEC region. There has been a significant increase in the number of MSMEs led by women. According to the APEC Women and the Economy Dashboard 2023, the percentage of women starting businesses increased by 43% globally between 2019 and 2020. Creating a favourable environment for female entrepreneurs to grow their businesses by providing access to financing, markets and skills development opportunities is the key to achieving sustainable economic growth. Collaboration between female entrepreneurs is also becoming an important factor in their success.

What instruments of international cooperation for women contribute to economic development? Can women’s associations cooperate in the creative industries? As countries and economies develop, best practices in light industry need to be taken into account to create products that will be in demand in the future, while factoring in the ever-changing conditions, including in the environment and climate. The digitalization and automation of production have altered the nature of labour in the modern world. Numerous professions have become accessible and safe for women. For example, in Russia, the list of jobs that were previously closed to women has been reduced fourfold: from 456 to 100 positions. This has improved women’s economic position in the labour market, where they make up 48.7% of the employed population. The percentage of women working in industry in Russia has also been increasing each year and currently stands at more than 40%, while the share of women in leadership positions in industry has also grown to around 30%.

The session will present the results of a joint study by the NAFI Institute, Norilsk Nickel, and SIBUR on problems and opportunities for women’s self-realization, including in manufacturing industries.

Women scientists make an enormous contribution to science. Their research in medicine, natural sciences, technology, mathematics, and other fields has in many ways changed the modern world and our knowledge about it. Almost a third of all female Nobel laureates have received this prestigious award in the 21st century. This is further evidence of women’s vast scientific potential, which is now being more fully unleashed due to the active efforts of different countries to enhance women’s role in the modern world.

How can we expand the involvement of women scientists in developing and intensifying international scientific and humanitarian cooperation? Women’s judo is a relatively new sport that began actively developing around the world and in Russia in the 1980s. In 1984, 40 years ago, the Soviet Union adopted a decree to develop judo among women. In the same year, the first All-Union Women’s Judo Tournament was held. Over the past 40 years, this sport, which in addition to physical training also includes training in resuscitation techniques, as well as philosophical and moral components, has become extremely popular among women in Russia. Russian athletes have repeatedly stood atop the sports podiums of major international competitions and various Olympics.

As part of the event, prominent Russian judokas and foreign guests will share their stories of victory and talk about what their lives are like today, as well as their plans are for the future.

The modern world is facing numerous new challenges in the healthcare sector. Pandemics, aging populations, an increase in the number of chronic diseases, and vast public demand for new active longevity technologies are creating all kinds of new problems for the pharmaceutical industry.

The role and contribution of women to the development of the pharmaceutical industry is invaluable. Women managers, scientists, and pharmaceutical company specialists are largely the ones who determine how this industry is developing, as well as its ability to respond to the needs of society. They pay special attention to cooperation and technological developments that could serve as the basis for the development of international cooperation.

With this in mind, the participants of the third Eurasian Women’s Forum decided to create a special project of the Council of the Eurasian Women’s Forum called ‘Women in the Pharmaceutical Industry’. The project participants and international experts will discuss the key drivers of the industry’s development and outline the challenges facing the pharmaceutical industry, as well as ways to boost trust in innovative health preservation technologies. Roughly a quarter of Russia’s population lives in rural areas, including 19 million women. The persistence, concern, and professionalism of women leaders in rural areas have all made it possible to implement numerous social initiatives and projects. However, studies show that there is a gap between the opportunities available to women who live in cities and those who reside outside of them.

How do social projects in rural areas benefit countries and people? Which women’s projects have had the greatest success? What Russian and foreign experience can be replicated to support rural women?

In the collective consciousness, the fuel and energy complex is a traditionally male-dominated sector. Society is again starting to value motherhood. Even so, 70% of women today would like to continue their careers. Measures are being taken at the state level to help women realize their potential by combining family responsibilities and work. Corporations are also changing their strategies to keep women at work. The maternity leave period is often among the most difficult times for women in terms of their professional growth. Many women put off having a child for this very reason. But they later experience problems as a result of giving birth later in life.

Climate change is causing numerous problems that affect almost all sectors of the economy, as it influences economic, social, and political life in all countries. The manmade impact on the environment creates a wide range of risks that primarily affect women since they make up a high percentage of communities whose livelihoods are highly dependent on natural resources. In addition, studies show that climate change and global warming pose major threats to women’s reproductive health, create the risk of complications during pregnancy, and also lead to an increase in premature births. However, the UN Population Fund says that only a third of countries around the world take into account women’s health and safety issues as part of their plans to combat the climate crisis. Studies show that countries pay more attention to eco-friendly development strategies when women play a greater role in government and business.

How can we adapt to climate change? What adaptation practices and strategies are considered successful and which countries are implementing them? What experience can be recommended for global use in terms of risk assessment and forecasting? Are social measures needed to respond to climate change and, if so, what should they consist of? The problem of preserving traditional values, culture, and traditions is one faced by many countries around the world. BRICS is evolving and playing an increasingly important role in the world. The accession of new member countries into BRICS and the prospects for the further expansion of the inter-state association, cooperation in the economic, political and humanitarian spheres, and the need to find joint solutions to the global challenges facing humanity – all this requires adjustments and updates to be made to the association’s agenda, the humanitarian part in particular. It has to be adapted to modern realities, while at the same time being forward-looking. The interaction between civil society and the expansion of cooperation between women leaders, scientists and public figures will go a long way to solving this problem.

What mechanisms should be used to develop international cooperation among female-led NGOs? What prospects does interaction among NGOs led by women open up in environmental protection, the study of the history, culture and spiritual values of various countries, and the protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens? What aspects will the participation of women leaders bring to the study of the global mechanisms that regulate public life (values)? How will consolidating their efforts contribute to the development of human potential in the BRICS countries?

The BRICS Women’s Business Alliance has been an important mechanism for cooperation within BRICS ever since its inception in 2020. The Alliance’s main activities are focused on promoting female entrepreneurship and increasing the role of women entrepreneurs in the development of trade and economic cooperation in the BRICS countries.

BRICS takes up 36% of the globe’s land area and represents 3.5 billion people, half of the world’s food production, and more than 44% of the world’s oil reserves. For the business community, the expansion of the association opens up new prospects for cooperation and the exchange of experience, and provides additional opportunities for investment.

What impact has the accession of new countries to the BRICS association had on the business agenda and the entrepreneurial environment of participating countries? What approaches are being used to find new points for the development of multilateral business cooperation? What areas of cooperation are a priority in terms of expanding the association? What joint women’s projects are being implemented to develop economic ties between the BRICS countries?

The ministerial meeting aims to define key areas of cooperation to achieve sustainable development goals, taking into account the differences in the national, cultural, and economic features of each BRICS country. This cooperation platform will reflect the common desire for sustainable macroeconomic growth, peace and security, social justice, and improvements to people’s quality of life. The meeting participants will also exchange experience about ways to support women’s leadership and increase their role in governance, discuss challenges associated with expanding women’s opportunities in BRICS countries, as well as developing and strengthening women’s potential at the global, national, and regional levels. A partnership in addressing these challenges will have a positive impact on the development of BRICS countries.

Issues related to the just energy transition are a focal point of the global energy agenda and are key in the BRICS energy dialogue during the year of Russia’s chairmanship of the organization. Women in all BRICS countries play a crucial role in addressing such issues.

What best practices in promoting the just energy transition agenda can BRICS women share? What practical role do women play in the energy transition of BRICS countries? How do BRICS countries support women’s leadership in fuel and energy companies, and what additional support measures are possible and necessary? How are BRICS countries utilizing the potential of women’s entrepreneurship in the energy sector? What joint projects could BRICS countries implement to train and adapt women to the engineering professions needed for the energy transition?

The development of agribusiness is inextricably linked with ensuring food security for the entire world. BRICS countries have a major impact on the global agricultural market. Today, the combined population of BRICS countries makes up almost half of the world’s overall population and their agricultural land accounts for more than 30% of the world’s total area. Women comprise the majority of the population in agricultural areas and make a significant contribution to the development of agribusiness.

The Russian Federation, which is chairing BRICS this year, pays great attention to women’s role in agribusiness, the development of their potential, as well as cooperation among BRICS states in this regard. During the business brunch, women leaders from BRICS countries will discuss ways to ensure food security, as well as the development of partnerships between their countries.
