Address by the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique Esperanza Laurinda Francisco Bias to the participants of the IV Eurasian Women's Forum

Dear Ms. Valentina Matvienko, Speaker of the Russian Federation Council! Your Excellencies, Distinguished Participants, and Dear Ladies and Gentlemen!

Allow me, on behalf of the deputies of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique and on my own behalf, to express my respect to Her Excellency Ms. Valentina Matvienko.

I also send greetings to all the women leaders of the countries participating in the Fourth Eurasian Women’s Forum.

I would like to thank Her Excellency Valentina Matvienko for her invitation to take part in this prestigious Forum.

Your Excellencies and Distinguished Participants, although I cannot be with you for internal reasons, let me take this opportunity to congratulate you on the choice of the theme ‘Women for Building Trust and Global Cooperation’, which is a topical, meaningful, and essential theme for the continuous enhancement of women’s role in our societies through effective participation in political decision-making processes and economic empowerment.

In the countries of the Southern Hemisphere, where my country is located, challenges remain with further advancing gender equality, women’s education and training, the protection of young girls, as well as women’s employment and access to funding for entrepreneurial initiatives.

My country, Mozambique, devotes special attention to the pressing issue of women’s inclusion, which has resulted in women’s leadership in several public bodies, namely the Assembly of the Republic, the Constitutional Council, and the Administrative Court of Mozambique.

Women also hold leadership positions in the Assembly of the Republic, provincial and municipal assemblies, the Attorney General’s Office, the government, public and private institutions, civil society organizations, and international organizations in which Mozambique is a member and where it shares its experience in promoting women’s inclusion in development processes.

We expect this Forum to come up with solutions that will help further advance women’s active involvement in addressing such important global issues as peace and security, political decision-making and economic development, the negative impact of climate change, and enhancing the value of cultural identity.

Dear participants,

In conclusion, allow me to express my wish that the Forum will be fruitful and help expand women’s leading role in advancing global cooperation for the benefit of an increasingly developed, friendly, and united world.
