Third Eurasian Women’s Forum Kicks Off in St. Petersburg

Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko will begin the plenary session.

The Federation Council has sent a delegation headed by Chamber Speaker Valentina Matviyenko to St. Petersburg to participate in the Third Eurasian Women’s Forum. The event is being organized by the Federation Council and the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The Forum operator is the Roscongress Foundation.

The theme of the event is ‘Women: Global Mission in a New Reality’. Event organizers have said that in today’s world, the issue is one of particular relevance, with primary goals of strengthening international cooperation in order to increase the role of women in achieving sustainable development goals, shaping the women’s agenda, and new approaches to resolving global issues in this new reality.

The Forum will be held at the Tavricheskiy Palace, the Parliamentary Centre, and the Universe of Water museum complex.

Three days of events will include plenary sessions, strategic and thematic discussions, and panels devoted to the mission of women in shaping a new agenda of peace and trust, a healthy society, preserving the planet, social transformations, and economic digitalization and development.

Expert sessions featuring international organizations and associations look to play an important role in the programme as they have in the past and include a visiting session of the Women’s Twenty, a session of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the World Bank, and a presentation of the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance.

Special focus will be on Eurasian Women’s Forum projects with the programme including an international teleconference for women winners of the Startup Tour and women leaders of international technological and innovative projects, a town hall session with women entrepreneurs, and a Russian Compatriots Abroad open dialogue.

A meeting of the International Club of Winners and Participants of APEC’s International Competition (APEC BEST AWARD) will be taking place for the first time.

The Forum will be attended by women parliamentarians, representatives of executive authorities, international organizations, global corporations, business circles, the scientific community, public organizations and charitable projects, and high-profile figures from within the international women’s movement.

The Forum will be held in person and will employ modern formats such as teleconferencing and online broadcasting, which will reach of the widest possible audience and ensure engagement with the event’s main platforms.

The Third Eurasian Women’s Forum will be organized with strict adherence to safety measures aimed at preventing the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and in keeping with the requirements of Rospotrebnadzor and the WHO.
