The EWC Council focuses on working with women in the BRICS countries

“One of the missions of a modern woman is to find answers to global and local challenges facing society,” said the Chairman of the Council of the Eurasian Women’s Forum, Senator Galina Karelova during a discussion on the new role of women in modern conditions. The session took place as part of the thematic track “The role of women in the development of industrial regions in modern conditions” at the III Women’s Forum in Kuzbass.

Galina Karelova noted that today, during a period of severe sanctions pressure on our country and international turbulence, the Council of the Eurasian Women’s Forum does not consider it necessary to abandon any of its international projects. According to her, their continuation, the development of women's cooperation and cooperation can be one of the effective responses to these challenges.

The senator said that the EWF Council at one time initiated the creation of several international women's associations - such as the Eurasian Association of Women Regional Leaders, the BRICS Women's Business Alliance, the International Club of Winners and Participants of the APEC Women's Entrepreneurial Projects Competition. At the height of the sanctions, the International Council for the Support and Advancement of Women in Industry and Technology was created, which included representatives from 16 countries and others.

All these associations, the senator emphasized, continue to work. Thus, at the International Competition for Women's Entrepreneurial Projects at APEC in 2023, the winner of the competition was unanimously given to the representative of Russia. According to Karelova, the next competition will take place this fall, and Russia will definitely participate in it.

— Today we place great emphasis on the work of the EWF Council with women of the BRICS countries. This association is expanding and strengthening its influence. Women can make their contribution to strengthening cooperation within the BRICS framework,” Karelova emphasized.

She said that on June 2, 2024, the BRICS Women's Entrepreneurship Forum will be held in Moscow with the support of the EWF Council, which will be attended by representatives of more than 30 countries. The Russian side of the BRICS Women's Business Alliance will announce a competition for women's startups and present several projects and initiatives that have already been tested in several countries.

“They relate to education, mobile employment, preserving women’s health, and developing tourism. The humanitarian focus of the projects is attractive. We hope they will receive support, and at the IV Eurasian Women’s Forum we will be able to analyze which of them make sense to promote further,” Karelova said.

According to her, our compatriots, representatives of the Russian-speaking diaspora, and regional leaders who are members of the EWF club become EJF ambassadors in other countries. She called on women from the Siberian regions to establish international, interregional, cross-border cooperation.

— Such interaction has always brought results, especially now when foreign trade activities are reoriented from West to East. Of course, there have been a lot of changes recently, but we need to continue to look for common ground and growth for cooperation. The latest international meetings that we held reaffirmed: women, even despite differences in views, upbringing, country and religion, can find a common language,” she concluded.
