The Council of the Eurasian Women's Forum and the Community of Women Parliamentarians of Africa and Arab Countries signed a Memorandum of Cooperation
The signing ceremony of the Memorandum took place in the Tauride Palace on the sidelines of the IV Eurasian Women's Forum. The document was signed by the Chairperson of the Council of the Eurasian Women's Forum, Senator Galina Karelova and the Chairperson of the Community of Women Parliamentarians of Africa and Arab Countries Jihad Abdullah Al-Fadhel.
The main goal of the memorandum is to expand interparliamentary cooperation in various areas. Particular attention, the document says, will be paid to expanding the rights and opportunities of women, their participation in public life and increasing representation in legislative institutions.
According to Galina Karelova, the memorandum provides for 10 main areas of cooperation. These include the implementation of joint educational programs, assistance in the adoption of legislative norms protecting the rights and dignity of women when using artificial intelligence; the creation of climate change adaptation programs aimed at meeting the specific needs of women and girls; the implementation of policies aimed at protecting women and children in conflict zones; coordination of strategic priorities on the agendas of regional and international parliamentary organizations in which representatives of both parties participate, especially in terms of women's empowerment, and the exchange of experience and research data.
— This is the first memorandum of this kind that we are signing with women parliamentarians from Africa and the Arab world. The Association of Senates, Shuras and Equivalent Councils in Africa and the Arab World (ASSECAA) includes 26 members representing the upper houses of parliament. The cooperation program will be extended to all countries at the same time. We have agreed on specific steps. The first is to develop a joint action plan for the year, which will include all 10 areas outlined in the memorandum. Joint parliamentary working groups will be created to implement and monitor the implementation of the plan. I am confident that our cooperation has great potential both for the development of the women's agenda in our countries and for the development and strengthening of parliamentary ties, — concluded Galina Karelova.
