O. Shchetinina: Measures aimed at increasing productivity have led to changes in working conditions and opened up new opportunities for women

The senator took part in the work of the EWF thematic session “How to increase the attractiveness of professional development of women in production”.

Olga Shchetinina, member of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture, representative in the Federation Council from the executive body of state power of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, made a report at the thematic session “How to increase the attractiveness of professional development of women in production”, held in St. Petersburg as part of the fourth Eurasian Women's Forum.

The senator noted that in the Russian Federation the state is taking the necessary measures, creating conditions so that women can achieve success in the professional field and at the same time be the keepers of the family hearth, the true soul of a large, large family.

According to the legislator, there are several areas of work to increase the attractiveness of work in manufacturing for women.

"Measures aimed at increasing productivity have led to a change in working conditions, opening up new opportunities for women. Production is being automated, and working conditions are becoming less dangerous. On January 1, 2021, an order of the Russian Ministry of Labor came into force, approving an updated list of industries where women's labor is restricted. It includes 100 items. The document replaced the list of 456 professions and types of work performed that were officially inaccessible to women, adopted more than 20 years ago. Over the past two years, women's interest in typically male professions has also grown - within 7 percent," said Olga Shchetinina .

As an example, the senator cited the experience of the Vyksa Metallurgical Plant in attracting women to traditionally male professions. "The enterprise launched the "Metallurgy for Women" project. The result is high efficiency and new self-realization of women. At the same time, male teams, in which women appeared, began to work more efficiently," she explained.

In addition, Olga Shchetinina noted the importance of helping young mothers combine career and motherhood. "Just over 60 percent of women with children under 7 are involved in labor activity. At the legislative level, within the framework of the National Strategy for Action in the Interests of Women for 2023-2030, the issue of providing companies that implement various corporate programs for the families of their employees with additional support measures is being worked out," she said.

Also, according to the senator, one of the most important tasks, on the solution of which both the quality and duration of people's lives depend, is preserving the health of working citizens.

"To encourage employers to take care of their employees' health, Russian legislation provides for compensation of expenses for preventive measures. That is, if an organization spends money on certain measures to prevent industrial injuries and occupational diseases, it can receive compensation for its expenses from the amounts of insurance contributions to the Social Fund of Russia," Olga Shchetinina noted .

According to her, important areas of work include the development of new family programs, the effective use and development of human resources, training and career development support for women.

The Fourth Eurasian Women's Forum is taking place from 18 to 20 September in St. Petersburg. The organizers are the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The operator for the preparation and holding of the event is the Roscongress Foundation.
