The strategic session "Women for the Preservation of Traditions" was held today as part of the fourth Eurasian Women's Forum in St. Petersburg. The moderator was the Head of the National Center for Historical Memory under the President of the Russian Federation Elena Malysheva .

Thet Thet Zin , President of the Myanmar Women's Affairs Federation, addressed the gathering via video link .

The session discussed issues related to the role of women in shaping the international agenda, the specifics of the new economic reality and women's contribution to the development of technology and innovation. The discussion also touched on the role of women in preserving family traditions and traditional values, the traditions of ethnic groups and small indigenous peoples, corporate traditions, a healthy society and social well-being.

Elena Malysheva , Head of the National Center for Historical Memory under the President of the Russian Federation: “The fact that the Eurasian Forum begins with our platform dedicated to our traditions is very significant. This shows that traditions are what unites us all. Despite their diversity and multifacetedness, traditions allow us to speak the same language. No matter what nationality, no matter what people they belong to, they are a collection of the wisdom of our ancestors. This is the very good, positive, inherent in us, which determines our life, our format of behavior, and most importantly, this is what determines our vision of the future. The experience that our ancestors passed on to us allows us to treat each other with respect, talk about the diverse world, and form the dialogue that we, as women, must conduct today.”

Natalia Nikolaeva , Chairperson of the Chuvash Republican Public Organization "Union of Women of Chuvashia": "Today we are witnessing how customs serve as an anchor, that a person can feel their worth in a changing environment and be confident in the future. The republic provides equal opportunities so that everyone can speak their national language. We understand that the main asset of the people is their language, and we treat the preservation of the Chuvash language with great trepidation."

She spoke about holding competitions and days of the national language, handicraft holidays. "Embroidery for us is not just art, it is a historical heritage through runes, signs and symbols. In Chuvashia, the tradition of holding weddings according to Chuvash customs is still alive. In addition, an interesting project of transferring knowledge and skills from parents to children through master classes is actively developing."

Nina Veysalova , Vice President of the Association for Education, Native Languages of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East, drew the attention of the participants of the strategic session to the fact that the peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East are represented by 40 ethnic groups that live on more than half of the territory of Russia. "The priority of each people should be orientation towards traditional moral qualities. If the peoples of the Far North did not observe the commandments and code of their ancestors, they simply would not survive."

Nghiem Thuy Lan , Chairperson of the Vietnam Petroleum Union, spoke about the traditional Vietnamese dress, “aozai,” which draws on the country’s history and is a symbol of the people. “It helps us promote our Vietnamese identity. It is filled with philosophical meaning. It contributes to the presentation of culture, reflecting the spirit of solidarity of the Vietnamese people. The costume represents humanity, the beauty of Vietnamese women, plus it is a certain ceremony.”

Marina Medvedeva, Member of the Management Board – Managing Director of SIBUR LLC, put forward an initiative to enshrine the concept of “labor dynasty” in the Labor Code of the Russian Federation: “Corporate traditions for large holdings are rules, rituals, connecting and uniting elements. This is the deep corporate culture of any large organization. In our organization, we introduced the term “labor dynasty”, which is described in the Code of Corporate Ethics of the company. However, such a definition is not clearly reflected in the Labor Code. In this regard, in preparation for today's session, we formulated several proposals that would be useful to include in the resolution part of our Forum. In particular, to enshrine the concept of “labor dynasty” in law, as well as to popularize the acquaintance of children with family corporate traditions, telling them about what kind of work path is possible for them. This is the key to the economic, social and labor development of enterprises.”

Elena Malysheva, head of the National Center for Historical Memory under the President of the Russian Federation: "Preservation of the cultural code, its history, genetic and cultural-historical purpose - that is what without which there can be no tomorrow. Otherwise, the future will be faceless and incomprehensible. Public demand for the preservation of traditional spiritual and moral values, an appeal to culture and its integration into society is evidence that traditions are acquiring a new sound."
