Russian Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic Alexey Chekunkov and Murmansk Region Governor Andrey Chibis took part in the "Arctic Living Room" as part of the fourth Eurasian Women's Forum in St. Petersburg

On the sidelines of the fourth Eurasian Women's Forum, the Arctic Living Room, an open discussion on the development of the Russian Arctic and the role of women in implementing this process, was held at the Vselennaya Vody Museum and Exhibition Complex in St. Petersburg. The event was attended by the Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic Alexey Chekunkov , First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Andrey Yatskin and the Governor of the Murmansk Region, Chairman of the State Council Commission for the Northern Sea Route and the Arctic Andrey Chibis . The discussion was moderated by the head of the United Volunteer Center of the Murmansk Region Evgeniya Chibis .

"Russia begins with the Arctic, and we are certainly the most important northern power in the world. I travel a lot in the Russian Arctic and I know that it is there that the projects on which the economic future of our country depends are being implemented. And in each Arctic region, in each management team, women play a key role. Not just because it is impossible to imagine families that take part in the implementation of these projects without women. And in the Russian North, the nature of Arctic exploration, the nature of the people who live there, are largely determined by women. As mothers, as wives, as leaders who participate in the management of the most complex processes, manage the most complex projects and entire regions. Women carry wisdom and love within themselves. Therefore, it is absolutely fair and natural that the Eurasian Women's Forum begins with the "Arctic Living Room", - said Alexey Chekunkov .

"The Murmansk Region has always been Russia's outpost in the North, and today it is the flagship of the Arctic development. The largest projects that receive support from the President of Russia and the Government of the Russian Federation are being implemented in our region. Our management team includes many professional women who not only hold leadership positions and are responsible for large projects, but also take care of their families and loved ones. This amazing combination makes the Murmansk Region stronger and more robust. We fight for people: we bring teachers and medical workers to the region as part of the "Course to the North" project. Of course, there are many girls and women among them. They come with their husbands and families, who, among other things, work in production and large economic projects," said Andrei Chibis .

The head of the region paid special attention to the wives of military personnel who live in the Murmansk region and pool their resources to create comfortable conditions for an interesting and dignified life in closed garrisons.

"I would like to express special thanks to the wives of our military personnel. There are a large number of servicemen in the Murmansk Region who defend our country on distant frontiers, at sea and under water, as well as in the special military operation zone. Their wives do not just wait for their soldiers, they take care of their families and actively participate in the development of military garrisons, which are being transformed within the framework of the ZATO renovation program. I would like to express special words of gratitude to the United Volunteer Center. My wife, Evgeniya Chibis, united the wives of servicemen five years ago and launched the implementation of charitable projects that are very important for the entire region," the governor noted.

“The Unified Volunteer Center implements many projects with the participation of women, primarily the wives of military personnel, allowing them to gain valuable knowledge, discover new opportunities, make new friends, like-minded people, and mentors,” said Evgenia Chibis.

Speaking about the prospects for economic and social development of the Murmansk region in the coming years, Governor Andrei Chibis noted that the regional government has developed a clear strategy for further work, which takes into account the opinions and wishes of the northerners themselves. "We have developed a clear strategic plan "Living in the North", which defines the comprehensive development of the Murmansk region. It involves the implementation of large-scale projects and, most importantly, changes the quality of life of our people. It is based on the opinions of experts and residents of the region. As part of the work on updating the strategic plan, we received over 72 thousand proposals from more than 25 thousand northerners. The regional government has already begun to implement the people's strategy, which will shape the future of the Murmansk region," Andrei Chibis emphasized .

As part of the "Arctic Discussion", the participants discussed a wide range of various issues related to the prospects for the development of the Russian Arctic. In particular, such issues as the participation of Arctic territories in the development of transport logistics along the Northern Sea Route, the role of the Murmansk Region in creating master plans for support settlements, the availability of Arctic medicine, attracting professional personnel, as well as the development and support of creative industries and gastronomic tourism in the Murmansk Region were brought up for discussion.

The discussion also included Deputy General Director for HR of the State Corporation Rosatom Tatyana Terentyeva , Deputy General Director of PJSC PhosAgro Svetlana Afanasyeva , Deputy Director of the Project Center for Energy Transition and ESG Principles of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) Irina Gaida , Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Chief Children's Allergist-Immunologist of the Ministry of Health of the Moscow Region Andrey Prodeus , designer and founder of the conceptual clothing brand from the Far North GAPANOVICH Alexandra Gapanovich , author and head of the All-Russian project "Gastronomic Map of Russia" Ekaterina Shapovalova .
