L. Gumerova: Women scientists take an active part in the development of international scientific cooperation

A meeting of the thematic session “Women Scientists – Leaders in the Scientific and Educational Sphere” was held.

As part of the fourth Eurasian Women's Forum, a thematic session "Women Scientists - Leaders in the Scientific and Educational Sphere" was held. The event was chaired by Lilia Gumerova, Chairperson of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture .

"The topic of the role of women in science is relevant for our country and the Eurasian states, and is part of the modern international agenda. Together, we have been promoting it on a systematic basis since 2021 at the Eurasian Women's Forum," the senator noted.

She quoted the words of the famous Russian scientist, the world's first female professor of mathematics, Sofia Kovalevskaya, about the mission of a female scientist. "I feel that I am destined to serve the truth - science and to pave a new path for women, because this means serving justice."

According to Liliya Gumerova , this approach is shared by all the participants of the session, who not only serve science, but also help young women — scientists and researchers — to pave their way in science. "It is gratifying to note that many participants are the authors of specific proposals and initiatives aimed at strengthening the role of women in modern science. This confirms that our platform and topic are in demand," the senator emphasized.

The head of the Federation Council Committee added that work on the women's agenda in science is not being carried out from forum to forum, but on an ongoing basis. "We are systematically working on a number of pressing issues: creating favorable conditions to ensure the possibility of a continuous career for women scientists with children; supporting women professionals in science and high technology in important industries; the role of women in the development of science and education in the regions; popularizing the achievements of women scientists and increasing the attractiveness of a scientific career."

She also pointed out the importance of promoting scientific diplomacy. "Women scientists are actively involved in developing international scientific cooperation. Women play a special role in this area not only as leaders of science, but also as guardians of the values of family, beauty, peace and dialogue," the senator believes.

Liliya Gumerova drew attention to the session motto: "The world needs science, and science needs women." "Together we will be able to develop proposals and initiatives for the development and strengthening of international academic and educational cooperation, and the further rapprochement of women in Eurasia," the parliamentarian concluded.

The head of the Egyptian Academy of Sciences, Research and Technology, Gina Sami El-Fiki, addressed the session participants with a welcoming video message.

The discussion was attended by Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture Lyudmila Skakovskaya , Rector of the University of Science and Technology MISIS Alevtina Chernikova , Head of the International Relations Department of the Research Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology of the Islamic Republic of Iran Simin Dokht Shirvaniarani , First Deputy Director for Science of the National Research Center "Kurchatov Institute" Yulia Dyakova , employee of the Institute of African Studies, manager of the African Liberation Museum Diana Tsitsi Sitotombe , Dean of the Faculty of Fundamental Physical and Chemical Engineering of Moscow State University named after M.V.
