I. Svyatenko: The number of people wanting to practice judo in Russia is increasing – and not only among boys, but also among girls

An awards ceremony for Russian judokas took place on the sidelines of the Eurasian Women's Forum.

Deputy Chairperson of the Federation Council Inna Svyatenko took part in the award ceremony for outstanding judokas and champions of the 2024 Russian Women's Professional Judo Tour. The athletes were honored in St. Petersburg at the site of the fourth Eurasian Women's Forum.

The vice speaker of the Federation Council noted that judo is a multifaceted, profound martial art with a rich philosophy and system of values. "Success here is impossible without colossal endurance and self-control. And to win, you always need flexibility, the ability to find balance, and maintain equilibrium of body and spirit."

According to Inna Svyatenko , the number of people wishing to practice judo in Russia is increasing every year – and not only among boys, but also among girls. “This is the future of our sport. I am sure that today’s athletes will become a true example of sporting honor and dignity for those who are just starting out in the big world of judo.”

The athletes were also greeted by the President of the Russian Judo Federation, Sergei Soloveichik .

The Russian Judo Federation (RJF) became a member of the EWF for the first time. Domestic women's judo celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2024. The starting point of its history is considered to be the order on the development of judo among women, issued by the USSR Sports Committee in April 1984. In the same year, the first all-Union competitions of judokas were held in the city of Tartu, and the official start - the first USSR Championship among women was held in Minsk in 1987.

The Nika statuette was presented to the silver medalist of the Olympic Games in Sydney Lyubov Bruletova, bronze medalist of the Olympic Games in Athens, two-time bronze medalist of the World Championships Tea Donguzashvili , bronze medalist of the Olympic Games in Tokyo Madina Taymazova , bronze medalist of the World Championships in Hamilton Victoria Kazunina , bronze medalist of the World Championships in Baku Alexandra Babintseva , European Champion in Rotterdam Olga Vyatkina (Sonina) , two-time European Champion and winner of the European Games in Minsk Darya Kurbonmamadova (Mezhetskaya) , European Champion in Tel Aviv Irina Maibach (Dolgovoy) .

The winners of the Women's Professional Competition "Russian Judo Tour" also received commemorative awards.

The Fourth Eurasian Women's Forum is taking place from 18 to 20 September in St. Petersburg. The organizers are the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The operator for the preparation and holding of the event is the Roscongress Foundation.
