The business programme for the 3rd Eurasian Women’s Forum, which is set to take place on 13–15 October 2021 in St. Petersburg, has been published on the official event website. The Forum is being organized by the Federation Council and the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States, with the Roscongress Foundation as operator.
Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Galina Karelova commented, “The programme we have put together for the Eurasian Women’s Forum reflects endeavours by women around the world to strengthen international collaboration, partnership, and trust. Key discussions at the Forum will focus on the role and mission of women in ensuring global security, social progress, the transition to new models of economic growth, protecting the health of current and future generations, striking a balance in a world undergoing full digitalization, and addressing environmental and climate‑related issues.”
The Eurasian Women’s Forum will include a regional week, which will take place from 5 to 11 October. Karelova noted that each day will be dedicated to a particular topic. In particular, participants will discuss the National Action Plan for Women, protecting people’s health, development trends in female entrepreneurship, and new approaches to increasing female participation in the development of rural areas and agribusiness. There will also be a 17-hour marathon on female leadership, which will be open to women from all of Russia’s regions. “This integral part of the Forum will set the tone and pace for the rest of the event, as it brings together women from a number of different countries.”
The business programme incorporates dozens of events which will take place at the Universe of Water Museum Complex and Tavricheskiy Palace. “The programme will help guide and assist participants at the Forum. Events have not only been categorized by day, but also by theme, with information provided on specific topics for discussion. I have no doubt that it will enable Forum guests to navigate their way through the great many events set to take place,” said Karelova.
The discussions, thematic sessions, strategic sessions, and analytical sessions have been grouped into five main categories.
The Women’s Mission to Shape a New Agenda for Peace and Trust will focus on female participation in the diplomatic sphere, as well as in efforts to forge the Greater Eurasian Partnership.
The Women’s Mission to Come Together for a Healthy Society will seek answers concerning the role played by women in securing a healthy future, and opportunities available to them. It will also look at new effective technologies, as well as mechanisms and approaches to promote healthy lifestyles.
Elsewhere, environmental and climate-related issues will come under the spotlight at events held as part of the platform The Women’s Mission to Protect the Planet: The Philosophy of Conscious Consumption and an Environmentally Friendly Future.
Finally, two platforms – The Women’s Mission to Achieve Social Transformation and The Women’s Mission to Achieve Digitalization and Economic Development – will focus on changes taking place in society, increasing female participation in fast-growing sectors of the economy, the development of the creative economy, and increasing financial and digital literacy.
A number of sessions will take place under the theme Women in Agribusiness. These will attempt to identify which agricultural projects are in greatest demand in the international investment market, and ascertain the future of agricultural professions.
Initiatives by the Eurasian Women’s Forum will take a special place in the programme. Among the events scheduled to take place are an international video conference discussion of women prizewinners of the Startup Tour and women leaders in international tech and innovation projects; a direct line with female entrepreneurs as part of the launch of a digital women’s business platform; and an open dialogue entitled Russia’s Compatriots Abroad.
As in previous editions of the Forum, expert sessions featuring international organizations and associations will form a key part of the programme. These will include a session of the Women20, a session of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), a World Bank session, and a presentation of the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance.
Among the events taking place for the first time at the Eurasian Women’s Forum will be a meeting of the international club of winners and participants of APEC’s international competition for women’s projects (APEC BEST AWARD), and a meeting of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency international working group on improving the gender balance in the nuclear sector.
